I have a MUCH larger second hard disk with lots of memory already installed if that helps. I need to know how to move the program files around etc. I'd prefer to replace the "C" drive with a larger HD.

The best thing to do is keep the OS on the old drive and set the new larger drive as slave, then move all the files to the slave. Then once that is done, do a backup of your C drive on the slave. your computer will work faster and when the C drive fails you dont lose any files, and you can restore very easy as the restore will be on your F or whatever letter it is assigned. I have been using 2 hard drives for many years, it is the best way to go as you never lose files and when you get another computer much easier to transfer files too and the way hdd are priced now it is very cheap to do

You can copy the whole drive over...but I would not recommend. It makes more sense to have first smaller harddrive have the operating system and program files, and the second larger drive have the personal files and media. This makes it easier to start from scratch, reinstall what you need to reninstall, and keep your files...by just formating the first drive.

I recommend putting your second drive in as an IDE slave...and copying over all the big files to it.

Have the "D:" drive on one IDE cable, on the last connector, with a CDrom drive on the second ( or middle),connector.

Have the "C:" drive on the first IDE cable on the end, alone.

boot from any of the LiveCDroms, like http://pclinuxos.com

open a terminal window and type "dd bs=256k of=/dev/hda if=/dev/hdc"

That will clone the old C: drive onto the new drive, that will become the new "C:" drive.

Anyone at a Linux User Group Installfest will try to help you do it, http://lugww.counter.li.org
