Partially. My degree is in Astronomy. I don't work in that field, but I do use a lot of the math and physics background that went along with the degree.

It's a tough question given all of the other knowledge a person gets aside from his/her major. Last time I looked, colleges were still requiring "core" requirements in fields other than one's major.

Besides, the basic education one gets in college consists of learning how to think. Problem-solving skills can be applied to many professions. It should be no surprise that a lot of college graduates work in fields other than their degrees.

I have an Associate's degree, and a MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) certificate in Word and Excel. And when I'm looking for a job in office work, most require a Bachelor's degree. It's okay if it's entry-level and/or do training. My Associate's in Liberal Arts/Sciences, so it doesn't really fit into Office or Secretarial work.

I have degrees. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology, which gets you the privelege of being able to live in a cabin in the woods with six juvenile delinquents whom you're supposed to reform. Next I got a law degree from George Mason University School of Law, and they didn't teach me squat. Everything I know about practicing law, I learned watching TV.

I have an AA in Human Services but currently work as an Administrative Assistant. Where I live, the type work I want to do rarely has openings, so for me to be employed in the field of my training, I would have to move to a larger area.
