As theirs no category to narrow the field a bit I would have to say your average Classically trained singer can usually sing the pants of your average rock/pop/R nB singer purely because they have the technique to deliver accurate tone at high volume over long periods of time. They very rarely sing out of tune or loose it on stage. So Luciano Pavarotti would be a hard singing act to follow...he'd blow your head of from 20 yards. Saying that... I thought Janis Joplin had an amazing voice..not because she was technically brilliant..but that you could really 'hear' the life she was experiencing in her voice, the pain, joy, desperation, fun and abuse.

It's got to be Joy Division's lead singer Ian Curtis. Such a powerful and emotion-laid singing style...

For sheer quality and showmanship it has to be Freddie Mercury. Ever see his silly song he used to do with the crowd at a gig? Fantastic range and oozing with style! Robbie Williams said he learned everything about stage craft from watching Freddie!

Definitely, the under-rated one-hit wonder Norbert McFester from the Blasket Islands.
