I was standing in line at the gas station in the relatively small town my parents live in and this cowboy comes in and cuts infront of everyone waiting and starts in on the guy of apparent Indian descent working the counter about how to pay for his gas. After fumbling out some words about how he can't manage to work the pump and 'where do I pay?' and 'do I have to come back inside to get change?' He then walks away, turns to us as he's doing so and says ''Press 1 for english'' and starts laughing like a redneck idiot. The worst is that the cashier spoke perfect english and the cowboy was about as eloquent as a gorilla. Anyway, those of us in line exchanged a confused glance and said sorry to the cashier but man I wish I could have said something to that guy. Have you ever had something like that happen when you managed to say something witty that put them in their place?

I don't wish or think, I deliver.

As for your situation, due to the fact I was not present, I cannot come up with any response to that although I'm sure I would've been able to if I was there.

I was on the bus sitting next to this guy doing some word search. Passengers were boarding at the time and the last guy, couldn't find a spot to sit and stood at the front of the bus looking for a seat. The guy doing the word search stood up and was like "hey buddy, sit down!" and he pointed at some seat alll the way in the back. As he sat down, he smirked and muttered "dumb@$$"
He resumed his word search and continued doing his word search. Apparently he was stuck and I happened to see it (was really easy...bottom left corner...). I pointed at the word and said "hey buddy, it's right here". He laughed and was all thanks. And I got up, took the seat across the aisle and as I sat down, I muttered loudly to myself "dumb@$$"- loud enough for him to here. Was quite rewarding. He kept quiet the rest of the ride and just stared out the window.

You never should have let him cut in line. That gave him the upper hand since no one stopped him. A simple excuse me stand in line like everyone else probably would have avoided you having to winess his idiotic behavior. His many questions proved he was not very bright besides being a rude jerk. His press 1 for english could have been aimed at the clerk or any one in line who wasn't white. I think the way he treats people will come back on him, and not putting him down was ok because you would be lowering yourself to his level. In God's eyes you passed with flying colors. Be proud of your meekness, it is becoming rare. Peace

Isn't it always the way? Something witty never rolls off your tongue when you need it.

My ex had an old paperback which basically gave you retorts for just about every situation. Unfortunately, he took it with him. Darn!

i know exaclty how you feel, most of the time i am quick enough to make a smart comment, but there are times when you're at a loss.
i would have responded with:
"what button do i push to speak redneck?"
"i'm surprised you even know how to use a telephone"
"(while holding up your middle finger) yeah, press 1"

Of course! It happens all the time. And if I do happen to come up with something, it's always after the fact.

Sometimes it takes as long as the next day for me to come up with what would have been the appropriate thing to say!

Often, I'll think of something witty after it already happened. I hate when that happens!
