1 - large sheets of paper, like newsprint
2 - soft charcoal pencils or sticks

Black chalk and a sheet of unlined paper.

Place the paper over the gravestone. Place the chalk flat against the paper, and rub back and forth. You'll get an image of the inscription.

Personally, I would use a crayon or a colored pencil, and a piece of paper.
