You should research the case law and/or ask the Notary Public Commission. There may be an old case not available on line.

The common rule is that you are not prohibited from notarizing documents for family members, but you must be certain you do not have a direct or indirect interest in the matter for which you are notarizing a document. For example, if you notarize a will for a family member, you have to be sure you are not a beneficiary nor a potential heir at law, and that the death of a named beneficiary would not lead to you taking a share under the will.
