If you're talking about the Depo shot, I don't think gaining weight is a side effect. However, bear in mind that Many women do not stop bleeding, but have a CONTINUAL period until the shot has left your system.
I do not believe in the shot because it prevents our bodies from functioning naturally as they should.
The shot does not protect against STD's. Yes, use a condom. Good luck.

Are you talking about Depo Provera? I've been on Depo for a few years now and haven't had any weight gain from it - no more so than with the pill anyway. I've been told by my dr. and the nurses that Depo enters the system immediately, so as far as birth control you are protected right away. So there is no need to use a condom, unless of course you are not in a monogamous relationship - then you would want the condom to prevent any STDs which Depo does not prevent. For the first year I would get the shot in my arm and it hurt badly for about 2 days afterward, to which a nice nurse suggested it was a much better shot for the butt. It is - I barely feel it there.

girl, you need to use the spell checker! I didn't like it, I was on it 6 months and sometimes I'd have a period, sometimes I wouldn't and sometimes I would have 2 in 1 month. You should still use a condom to prevent std's. Again, spell check or get a "dikshunairy"

I believe it flipped me from low blood sugar to diabetes. If you have a family history of diabetes, you may not want to have "the shot".
