I am using windows 2000 advanced if this makes any difference...sorry everyone, but i am totally computer illiterate...

Sounds like the hard drive is not being monitored so you have to turn it back on if you want system restore to work. If using XP, go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools and click on System restore. Look on the left hand side in the middle and you'll see something like "System restore settings". I believe if you click that - it will give you a spot to have it monitor your C drive or whatever drives you want it to watch.

How old is your computer and what os is on it? You may be able to go to the website for the manufacturer and go to Support to get what you need in Drivers and Software.

if you delete the recovery from your computer and don't have a recovery cd, need to send your computer to your provider or put a windows of your own
