Stay away!
Because some of these Associations are run by Rules Nazis. You break one they'll make your life a living hell.
Not to mention that if you don't pay the "rent" they CAN take your house.
On the other hand, they are sort of nice because then you don't end up with the trashy neighbor that doesn't water the lawn and/or allows 3 foot tall weeds to grow.

That association fee typically covers amenities - pools, maintenance, work-out places - and it's not like rent. Some associations (like condos) cover lawn maintenance, snow shoveling, security, roofs and painting..... so you need to check so see what the association fee covers. Our's is about $650 a year which basically covers conveniences and pool and activites for adults, kids and families. When I owned a house without a fee, I'd spend an average of $3,000 per year just in maintenance for different things so the association fee may be a buy - depending on the area & cost and what is included.

You are right, it is like rent for the rest of your life. What you are talking about is new(er) developments/subdivisions. In essense it is no different than the way a Condominium Association operates. Think of it as a spread out Condominium compex and you'll understand the insanity of it better.
The Association pays for things like common lighting (street lights in the complex/subdivision), common water (sprinklers), landscaping, snow removal, etc. And along with that goes the "rules and regulations" of the Association. These are COVENANTS that RUN WITH THE PROPERTY - meaning that they are legally binding and anyone who owns a house in the development has to follow them to the letter (including any crazy amendments to the rules that the Association may vote on in the future). It stinks because YOU own the house, but you still have to pay the EXTRA fee to the Association for all of those things AND follow all of those rules (which can be as crazy as saying you can't put air conditioners in your window, can't put certain kind of plants in your yard, can't put up flags, etc.) CONFORMITY is the name of their game. Oh, and not to mention that 99% of the time these Associations are run by morons. This means constant fighting with your neighbors over silly rules and over the Association's budget, etc.
So yeah, STAY AWAY! Buy a home of your own, not one with an Association and not a Condominium. Your home is your castle, don't let anyone take that away from you!

My husband hates it but I love it!!! We need rules in this country. Have u seen homes without associations: cars are parked on the lawn, grass is rarely cut, toys are left in the driveway overnight, and I have seen homes painted orange with black trim, and purple with pink trim. I will never move a neighborhood without an association.

Association fees usually include lawn care, snow removal and security. I don't need that in my neighborhood, but I don't live in a gated community or townhomes, just a regular old house.

the reality that no person needs to renowned is, an excellent many Asian human beings have a distinctive set of standards to classic united kingdom values. Corruption is endemic in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. whilst they circulate to this usa they deliver those attitudes with them. it quite is everyday in any community government section the place there is an Asian majority. to illustrate: in simple terms stress around Slough and verify out lots of the development paintings that has long gone unchallenged in spite of for sure not assembly making plans policies. there is likewise a politically properly suited reluctance to pursue the corrupt in the event that they are Asian - can not disenchanted the Muslims. basically for the bleeding coronary heart lefties: i'm not asserting ALL Asians are corrupt or ALL Brits are incorruptible. yet standard. . .

Those neighborhoods that have an association want to create a uniform look to their neighborhood.
I think some are okay but some go overboard with their rules and regulations.

They suck, and the HOA rules and regulations suck. But, the are the wave of the future, ever since some yutz decided that everyone wanted to live in cookie cutter homes in planned communities just after WWII.

It depends on what the association fees are for--some are for community pools, security, landscaping etc it depends on what they are for and if you like that environment or amenities
