I overheard someone on TV mentioning how "we" had to suffer through salvery and are entitled to this and that.
I don't get it. Yes slavery was a bad thing....150 years ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with this guy, nor anybody else alive on this planet TODAY. Those times are over, slavery has not been around for generations now...but yet many people feel they are OWED something because of it. Read a history book and see how many Greek/Roman battles occured in history. Many times entire societies were not only occupied, but literally owned. Do you see this cultures bellyaching about what is due to them today? NO. When it was over, they got off their a.s.ses, made a life for themselves and moved on. They didn't expect handouts, equal opportunity, or other gimmicks to ENTICE them to do something. Having a quality life was incentive enough. If only that could be the case today, in America. If you don't like what you have already handed to you, buy a boat ticket home

"because the ramifications of slavery have never been addressed fully"
What ramifications of slavery are there TODAY? None, blacks get a hand up over whites (and others) on NUMEROUS things from college scholarships to employment...based on ethnicity only. Not merit. Not GPA. Not initiative. Not work ethic. Skin color only. That is how portions of equal opportunity really work.
"and subsequently savage inequalities between African Americans and others still continue."
There is always going to be that. Reverse the playing field and tell me the chances of survival of a white guy in the heart of Compton at 2am. That door swings both ways and will not be solved by the black people given the key to anything they way just because they are black. There will always be opression of someone because they are different from someone else. Thats a given. Just get up, get a job, make an effort, and solve it that way...on your own, without every handout available, and then some.
