I posted a question with pieces of current legislation... the link had been removed and was very hard to find in the first place. I ask for opinions on interpreting it.
A guy said that I should have used quotation marks, so I emailed him and basically said, '...it was legislation, not a quote...' Btw, it was the current HR 921 Israel support....
I included the link where it used to be http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c109:1:./temp/~c109RhlSFR::
As you can tell, it has been removed but luckily I saved a copy.
So get this.... the guy emails me back and says, 'who cares, you are still wrong.' LOL
Now, trust me I do not give a rat's butt what this guy thinks of me or anything else for that matter. BUT this lack of intellect just simply baffled me.
Don't you think that ppl like this are what is wrong with American politics? They seem to literally only want to fight with other AMERICANS and have no sense of unity as a nation.

You could not of done a better job at describing the current attitudes of many Americans. Have faith because there are many people that are the opposite. It's sad, that when you asked a question of importance and seeking clarification that you encountered such stupidity.

Ok, deep breath now, cuz this may take a while...
I think the answer is no. Ignorant people is not the reason America is divided. In my opinion, America is divided because there are a select few, the elite, who encourage the division, as you call it, to confuse Americans and distract them from the real issues.
You must understand that a bill as contreversial as HR 921 will never have 100% support for OR against it! There are people who feel it's wrong, and others who feel it's right. This is not to say that America can not stand as a nation, though. That is a big jump to make. Or even to say it's divided.
If you expect all Americans to support the government whether the citizens agree with them or not, then you should live in a Communist nation. This is America, where citizens are free to and SHOULD do what they can to push America in the direction they feel is right.
You know, I'm having a lot of trouble here answering this question because you didn't explain how America is divided. Are you talking about Republicans and Democrats? Are you talking about supporters and opposers to HR 921? I would certainly like to discuss this with you, but I'm afraid you must be a little more specific as to how America is divided.
The way I see America, it is divided into three groups. The elite that knows what's going on and pushes America in the wrong direction. The majority of Americans who believe the media and the pretend story of what is going on in the world. Third, those who know the truth, and are frustrated as hell, not wanting to take it any more. The first group is the smallest, but most powerful, and have tricked the second group into protecting them by repressing and ridiculing the third group.
Please clarify your question.

Ha, screw unity, they don't even have sense! The problem is that no one is listening to anyone they don't agree with. A Republican will immediately not listen to a good idea by a Democrat because he's a Democrat. A Democrat won't listen to a Republican because he's a Republican. There aren't enough people who realize that both sides have strong points and should be heard out. As much as I don't like Bush, not everything he has done has been horrible. Every person in politics has made mistakes and the problem is that everyone only acknowledges the mistakes that their political enemies make. Like I said, we need to listen to other peole more and actually think critically about what they say. This guy is an example of not listening and being an idiot. There will never be unity as long as people can't listen. Sigh..it frustrates me.

This is what makes America a great country. We have diversities but in crisis the diversities are laid aside and we all come together under one voice. Whether we are religious or not makes no difference. The diversities is another thing that makes America a great country. We all have the chance to voice our opinions without the threat of death or torture. We can criticize our government on the Federal or State level without fearing. We can criticize our policy givers on both the levels and not worry about a term in prison. We have the right of assembly, we can march, sit, or sing without fear. We can desecrate our flag without so much as a slap. We can work where we want, choose how much or how little education we want. There is no one forcing us one way or the other. We can live as we want, where we want and when we want. As long as we remain law abiding citizens we have no worries of the governmental agencies intervening. When we choose to maim or harm another then our problems arise. If no one likes the current leader they can select another one to complain about. They can come up with the conniving plans that this administration has toward the Americans. No matter if Democrat or Republican you are always going to have those that are disagreeable no matter what the good or bad things has been done. This is freedom. We love it and that is the unity of Americans.

It does seem baffling sometimes but you shouldn't let that get in the way of a good argument. If its worth your time then you can put up with other peoples crap to talk about it. As for uniting americans, I don't think its possible anymore, we're simply too big and too diverse. Look at whats happening in Europe with the new diversity they're having to deal with, its tearing communities apart. I know it exists in the US too, but we haven't had any nationwide racial riots in a relatively long time (and I know that was isolated in France and didn't take in other countries with similar problems but that problem exists in many countries you wouldn't think it does, like Switzerland! I've lived here a year and a half now and I'm amazed by the social divide, and when there were the riots in France there were some here too but they were swept under the rug) Sorry to have gotten a little off subject but to get back to your question, I'll recapitulate by saying, don't let a persons lack of tact in debate affect yours, keep to your guns so to speak.

They are called Republicans and Democrats. They, for some reason, can't remember that their purpose is to benefit the country and not their own respective parties and/or themselves. Most, if not all, of these type of people rely on technicalities (like quotations) to avoid, sidestep, or stomp on something that opposes (or disproves) them.
If everyone could remember that we are in the same boat, we wouldn't have the problems we have. We wouldn't have every country in the world hating us. And we would be on the verge of having a potential war brought to our doorstep. We have a senate and house full of self absorbed idiots who think that they are above everything they write. And it only screws everyone else, like me, in the short and long term. Our country is alot more than just divided, which is unfortunate. If we can keep it cobbled together for just 2 more years, at least we are guaranteed the fact that we'll have a new face in the pilot's seat, instead of the retard a.s.s.hole we currently have. That gives me a little hope that we can eventually get it turned around...although me winning the Powerball is probably more likely.

First off we all have to grow up a litte and recognize people are going to be somewhat rude.
Then, when we discuss controversial issues in politics and religion, we need to put a few facts into our discussion-- facts which we honestly believe are true, facts that we've gotten from credible sources. This will help our discussion, and we may even persuade others, or learn something new from this fact based discussion of opinions. Finally we should avoid name calling -- this is the best way to get our points across. When people are not being mean and snippy in response to us, it will seem like a better world, even if nothing else improves.

We have some rather crude individuals running around here and not all of them are American .
We do have our politically screwed up ones , 911 was a White House conspiracy , the last 2 elections were stolen , Cheney flew the first plane into the World Trade Center , B.S. like that .
They're just sore losers and immature .

This lack of pride in our nation stems from lack of personal connectivity with the country itself. Everyone in France, for example, identifies him or herself as French, whereas in these United States, many put ethnicity first. I personally make it a point to describe myself as an American first, always.
If every American truly felt American, there would be a greater connectivity between citizens, and also between citizens and this nation. This lack of pride by an American means that he or she refuses to respect the nation and its citizens simply on a basis of connectivity; this is the underlying root of anti-patriotism.
