If your game is installed correctly, then Disk 1 of the newest expansion pack is the one you insert into the drive. The most common problem is putting the wrong disk in. It should be disk one of the latest EP you have.

If your CD drive or your CD itself is dirty or damaged, you may get the same kind of problem. Use an air can to clean your CD drive and also clean your CD disk (disk one) carefully (check for scratches) and retry.

If your CD ROM cannot read other disks reliably, the drive might be damaged.

It's not clear from your message about 'the old one' if you are talking about the orginal Sims (sims 1). If you are talking about the older game, that one (sims 1) has to be installed in the order that the games were released. The Sims 2 games do not (so far) need to be installed in order EXCEPT, the base game should be in your computer before you install the any EPs. But if you are having trouble and above cleaning and disk changes do not work, then reinstall the game. Your machine might be running some stuff in the background that messes it up, so you may have to pay attention to the installation manual with the game (yeah, I know, most of us don't read the instructions anyway... but if you are having nothing but trouble, do check the manual)

If your machine seems to be running the game veeerrrry slooooow, visit this site and test your machine. The test will tell you where your weakest areas are on your computer. If there are many, you may have a lot of problems with the game.
(in the black box, pick The Sims 2)

Maybe its not the CD/game it might be that your computer can't handle it all.......when i got the sims 2 i had to delete the sims and all of its expansion packs.....the sims2 is a great game but it takes up a lot of space on your computer......and if that doesn't work then try to start the installation over. Good luck:)

I haven't played the game in a long time....Just try all the CD's and see what happens. Click the latest expansion pack you downloaded see what happens. Oh and for future refrences go to thesims2.com on there forum you'll get better responses.

maybe its too plenty on your computing gadget, it desires sufficient room/memory for video games too artwork, attempt to do away with the numerous sims video games which you never play and that are in basic terms there for no reason... wish you appreciate Sims (SIMing)

Sometimes if you have multiple sim games they cross each others coding and it makes them not work. You should uninstall all sim games from your computer and play them one at a time.
