I have the type of washing maching where you put the fabric softener in hole that's in the middle of the tub, I've noticed that there's alot of buildup in there. It looks really nasty. How does one go about cleaning it out?

Try Vinegar

Run a quart of vinegar through your washing machine, putting some vinegar also in that softener basin. That will definitely clean your washing machine and should help quite a bit with the goo.

Remember to put your wash through a second rinse cycle since it will smell of vinegar when you're done.

I have one that does the same thing so I quit putting fabric softener in it. I use a Bounce ball instead. You can use other fabric softeners in it. I hated cleaning the mess that was always in there.

Mine comes off you might try and see if yours will to and if so take hot soapy water and run through it and then for the fabric softener part you can use one of those Mr.Clean Magic Erasers they work awesome !!!

if the holder is removable, take it off and soak several hours in white vinegar..otherwise put vinegar in it as you would fabric softner and let it set overnight, then run machine as usual, without clothes..you may have to do this several times. good luck.
