My wife put copious amounts of sweetfire tomato dressing on her salad, my turn next. So I shook the bottle first, alas she did not screw the cap on tightly, and it went everywhere, over my lap, the tablecloth, and on the dog sitting beneath me

From the dog's perspective, you're both to blame and he demands an apology! From my perspective, that's a terrific story; thanks!

Both of you are to blame. Her for not putting the cap back on right and you for not checking. Each person in life is responsible for his/ her own actions and can not hold another person liable. You can not blame her because YOU did not check before YOU did something where as a mess insued or under any other circumstances. Not any more than she can blame you for making a mess when you would not have, had SHE put the cap back on properly. Therefore the "blame" is rightfully owned by BOTH of you and NOT one or the other.

Why put the blame on anyone? Accept it for what it was a mistake. I'm quite sure that you and your wife are probably laughing about it already, or if not will be soon. A little salad dressing isn't going to kill you or your dog so please laugh it off as a something silly that you can share with your grandkids someday.

I'd say your wife is to blame because she should have either closed the bottle tightly or left the cap off altogether. I hope you're not arguing about this - it's pretty minor and she obviously didn't do it on purpose.

If she just used the bottle it didn't need shaken. Clearly, your fault. On the other hand the lid doesn't have any business being on the jar if it's not screwed on tightly. I think this is a fifty-fifty thing.

You guys should have recorded the event on video so that we can all watch and have a good laugh on here! Who cares whose fault it was...... my parents used to argue over such questions for hours! I used to get totally annoyed over it. They could have cleaned up the mess 10 times while arguing over it.
Childish..... :)))
I guess they were so much in harmony that they just needed some little conflict to add the spice to the relationship.
Tiring to watch and listen to it every second day, believe me.........

Fa, glad I wasn't there !

Well, I think it isn't nice to start blaming each other.

Clean the mess up together, have a good drink to get over it and laugh about it later.

heehee.. i hope u both were able to laugh about it instead of blame eachother. seems like a two way thing.... u should check, but she shouldn't put the cap on if she knew were gonna use it. *but* knowing u were gonna use it, maybe th'ats why she didn't screw it on tight.

you should look before you leap, as the saying goes. On the other hand if you have told her it bothers you when she leaves the cap unscrewed and she still does it, then she not only is wrong, but inconsiderate
