Judging by some of the responses, you can tell that most Americans don't exactly possess worldly knowledge.
I loved my stay there. There is an opera house, museums and theatres. Some of the cathedrals are absolutely stunning. It also is home to some nice beaches and seaside vistas, surprisingly. And the people are generally warm and friendly. I definitely have to make another visit sometime.

If you're talking about Odessa, Texas, then I'd say it's fair to Midland.
You can expect a hot and flat city in the middle of nowhere. I used to live in New Mexico and the only reason we went to Midland/Odessa was for Water Wonderland. That was fun.

Odessa!!!!!
Well, more then 3,000 years ago, Greek settlers founded the city which is still going on strong and dynamic, as all the cities founded by Greeks!
The Black Sea acting as Thermal capacitor makes a nice climate in the cities around, including Odessa!
Further, the excellent city planning and impressive classical buildings make the city a fine tourism destination!

Odessa, Texas? It's a decent size town, but it's like in the beginning of the dry west Texas desert. Not much there see as far as scenery goes. People are nice overall. And Permian High School used to be known as one of the best high school football teams in the nation. They aren't there any more though.

It's like a lot of different places, since there are lots of places named Odessa. You'll get better answers if you'll specify which one you mean.
