What's going on in Anchorage these days? I lived there for 10 years and haven't been back in almost 8 years. I miss it a lot and hope to visit next summer.

I pass through my times each year.

There's a new wing/concourse at the airport. And they renamed the whole thing the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (because of all the pork he brings home). I would really rather we go back to naming things after politicians only when they're thoroughly dead.

The Native Cultural Center (out towards Fort Rich) has opened and is nicely done.

The mayor went a building spree with a lot of new muncipal projects around town.

O'Malley is finally being completed as a thoroughfare the whole way from the New Seward to the Airport.

More hotels, especially near the airport, more McMansions in Hilllside. More multi-family stuff in the NE towards Elmendorf and Richardson.

There have been more bear problems at Ship Creek when the salmon are running.

Airfares are up a lot. $300 used to be a pretty good round trip from the West Coast. $600 is the new $300.

A variety of big-box stores have come to town and/or added locations (Wall-mart, Lowe's, Best Buy, etc)

Hope that helps.

I stay in Southeast Alaska. Anchorage and Juneau are super cities, Fairbanks isn't that huge. the two Anchorage and Juneau are interesting places and the human beings are friendly. the climate is sweet yet winters could be enormously bitter. assume to pay extra for each little thing up here and electrical energy isn't inexpensive. in basic terms look up the cities on the information superhighway and bypass to their city pages for further information and examine climate underground to get a experience for what the climate is. maximum people who pass to Alaska fail to take climate into consideration. individually, I stay in a rain woodland so the adjustment grew to become into hard.
