A walk off home run, happens for the home team only, in the 9th inning(or later in an extra innings game).
If a player hits a home run, and the result puts his team ahead, there is no need to complete the inning, because the game will end with the team ahead. This is only true in the bottom half of an inning. Since it is the bottom half, the other team will not get another chance to bat. So after the player "trots" around the bases, they can simply walk off the field and the game is over.

A home run by the home team in the bottom of the ninth inning (or later if score is tied after nine innings) with two or less outs. The home run brings home the winning run so that the teams can walk-off the field. Hence, the term "walk-off".
A walk-off double is a double that brings home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth (or later) with two or less outs.

It means that the team that is hitting, is the HOME Team...in either the bottom of the 9th inning (or extra innings if it goes that far)...
The home team has a player who hit a Home Run to end the game...it means once the HR was hit, the game is over (walk off)

A walk-off home run is a home run hit in the home half of the 9th inning or later (by the home team) which wins the game for the home team. One of the Dodgers players hit a home run in the bottom of the 13th vs. the Mets.
