it's because the baby is starting to drop down into position, if he/she hasn't already..and your stomach will feel tender and weired to the touch, this is perfectly normal....also sometimes the baby's position will cause this, if the baby is head down his/her back and butt is no longer pressed up against the skin. there is also a sense of lightening..you don't feel as heavy or uncomfortable.
labor...you will know when your in labor, even if your contractions are irregular..you can't miss the intensity and the pain is mostly in your back...also it's normal to have diarrhea right before..this is a good sign. I recommend the epidural if you haven't chosen yet..did 1 birth without it..and then the other 2 with it, and the second two went a lot better, and there was less stress on the baby because there wasn't as much stress on me. try a steady pace of walking and resting when you feel it's about time to have the baby, it will make the dilation much easier..also if you start running late ( i was two weeks ) orgasms will help the dilation and effacing..and labor will be quicker.

If you are 38 weeks pregnant, your stomach is just going to feel weird. Any spot where the baby is not pushing against your skin is going to feel like pushing on a ziploc bag filled with water, so it will feel soft. If you are concerned, ask your doctor, but this sounds absolutely normal. Hang in there!

My belly-just below the belly button is really sensitive to touch right now (39 weeks). It's normal. All the stretching it's done and the baby hovering in that area now, it's to be expected.

That is normal and doesn't mean to much. I would recommend a website called...
babycenter.com
It is free and tells you everything. They have many boards and the ladies are nice and give great advice. Check it out. good luck
