Where exactly measured? I have just measured an A4 Pendaflex suspension file and that is 32cm measured from halfway into the grip on the left to halfway into the grip at the right.

Apart from A4 and foolscap the only other UK size was quarto which was smaller and never widely available and totally obsolete now.

Other suspension files are lateral files which are are filed end on rather than widthways.

My father had a small two drawer wooden filing cabinet from a mail order catalogue called Modern Times and had to order their files as they were no known size.

Another possibility is an American size. You could try internet ordering from a US stationers site. Shipping is surprisingly low cost from the States.

If all else fails instead of suspension files use the old method of stand-up files. Get foolscap squarecut files and take them into a print shop and ask them to guillotine them to the size you need.
Better yet would be tabbed files but these are getting hard to find and you would need to cut each one individually to size to keep the tabs in a staggered row.
