i have put specific family names in and i haven't found anything on my family history. i have looked in books, internet, everything and the result i get is nothing. weird, ain't it.

It just means someone else hasn't compiled your family's history yet. The best way to conduct your research is to start with what you know and work backwards. Talk to older relatives and tape the interview so you have a record of them talking about your grandparents or great-grandparents. Write to the counties in the U.S. or the countries they immigrated from - there's usually wealth of information to be found in census records. Each state in the U.S. participates in the U.S. Genweb project, and you can download a great shareware program called Brother's Keeper to keep track of all the information. If all else fails, try the 14 day free trial membership from ancestry.com - they have lots of information including U.S.census images going back to 1790. You may have to build your family tree yourself. It's a worthwhile hobby. Hope this helps, good luck!

The Mormon Church maintains a HUGE geneology data base. I'm sure they coould give you a vast amount of information.

perhaps you should ask someone in your family or get your grandma's family Bible...it will have some history in it.
