The first thing you need to establish is whether or not *anybody* would even want your product in the first place. In other words, you need to identify what group of people is most likely to buy your product.
Then, you need to start targeting your sales/marketing efforts towards that group. Make sure your marketing campaign indicates how your product can benefit the audience.
You can also play around with the price to encourage sales...If sales are slow, reduce the price; drastically, if need be; at a loss if need be.
Remember, if you have to sell it at a loss at first, do so until your sales volume is enough that you can increase price to break even or make a profit.
Way to sell your product:
Door-to-door using commission-only salesmen
Contract with big store chains to allow your product on their retail shelves
Engage in TV and/or print advertising of which your target demographic is a part of the audience of said media
Good luck!

A product can only be sold if there is a market for it. You have to research the product and figure out what application it has and who might want to use it. If it is absolutely true that NO ONE wants to buy it, then you will never sell it, but often an item doesn't sell because it is poorly marketed or not priced competitively. One good way to find out if something has a market at all is to post it on eBay or in your local paper and set a very low price. If no one still buys it, then it has no value to anyone more than likely.

If that is your sales pitch, you are doomed before you begin.
To start with, I think you are asking the wrong question.
What would make your product something people would want to buy? Why should people take an interest in your product? What makes your product different from others out there?
You question makes it sound like you are admitting defeat. If you really feel that way, it's time to go out and find a new product. It is impossible to convince someone to take an interest in a product that you don't even believe in yourself.

Make an ad for it that is amusing in some way. My friend who sells things on Craig's List did that with a bike he was trying to get rid of for months, and as soon as it had some humor to it, it was gone!
It was something in the discription like:
This is a good bike for around town (blah blah blah) and even if you don't want to use it for that, it would be a good thing to throw at the annoying kids across the street that love to scream about non-sense things... And it could even make a good gift for that monkey that you bought your wife as a gift for Christmas. He would love it!
yeah... there was more to it, but I can't remember. Good luck in whatever you are doing!

Get the guy who does the OxyClean and OrangeGlo commercials. I see those adverts and want to buy whatever he is peddling. Not sure if it is because he is so loud or just so damn happy about the product.

Give some to celebrities- people will buy anything that celebs buy. I mean they could wear undies on their head and the next week, everybody would be wearing undies on their head, too.
