You were not short-changed. You don't dream during anesthesia. It's a deeper sleep...not REM.

Yeah, with my wisdom tooth. I didn't get an anesthetic but I was turned upside down with the chair to allow more blood to flow into the head and jaw to make a clog.
I didn't have a dream but in the evening, I had, while half asleep.
I dreamt that an angel came to my door knocking to check on me how I feel..... but I was too powerless to open the door.
And, the very same night I had the "recurring" dream again,,,,, I dreamt that he was kissing me to make the tooth pains go away.
The next day I was much better... :)

I was given a local (lsuch as the type you have injected into your gums at the dentist's office when you go in to have a cavity filled). I would have preferred to be knocked-out. Some people told me the reason they don't put women under for those breast injury repairs is that sometimes the women might not wake up. I don't know if that is true or if the way I got it was cheaper for the HMO.
I saw everything -- the nurse who prepared me for the surgery was unpleasant and brusque: when I winced because the water she wiped me with was cold, she chastised me saying the water isn't that cold. The surgeon was OK. I first asked him how many prior surgeries of this type has he performed before. He assured me, many. Then he bathed the tissue with novacaine while he worked. When the area began hurting again, he bathed it with more novacaine (not injections): then he had to mop it up because apparently it was flooding the area in my chest he was working on. When he cut the tissue out for biopsy, they placed it on the tray at the sink -- it looked like chicken meat I noticed. I did not dream: just kept saying to myself, hundreds of women have gone through this & they survived and in 30 min. it will be all over, just pretend I'm someplace else.
Everything turned out OK.

I have had 13 surgeries, for various problems. I have Crohn's disease. I survived all of them (obviously). I got an anesthetic. You don't usually dream, because it is not a true sleep.

I have had several surgeries.
first one-when i was 12. I had my adenoids taken out and tubes put in my ears. It went OK until 2 days later. I was throwing up blood and i had to go the hospital for a few days.
second surgery- 14 tubes out of ears
went fine. moderate pain after waking up
3rd surgery- 15 appendix removed, cyst from right fallopian tube removed. I was in severe pain in the hospital on morphine and Demerol for 2 days.
4th surgery- 16 years old cyst removed from right fallopian tube
it went ok- still severe pain for weeks.
I have never had a dream while i had surgery... I dont think it is normal to have one, lol

Yes, I have had surgery on several teeth, and I had a biopsy (negative, thankfully). I had anesthesia for all and didn't dream. It was just a feeling when waking up that it was only seconds that went by........
