my best friend's ex wife returned her wedding ring to him. he can't return the ring to the jewelry store, but he doesn't want to go to a pawn shop (i think he wants to make sure he gets top dollar for it). I want to help my buddy get closure, so are there any other alternatives out there for returned wedding rings?

i know some of you mentioned the "trade up" option. i told my buddy that, but he thinks he may seem kind of weird to give another girl a ring that originated from his ex. would you agree with him, because i don't.

Your buddy should try ebay. He can set the price and he may get what he paid for it but he needs to realize that it's a used ring now, and any person looking for fine jewelry is going to want to know when it was purchased and how much he paid for it. He should also include a picture so that folks can see what it looks like. OR he can have it melted down and made into a piece of jewelry that he can were like a cross or a ring etc. Good luck to you and your buddy.

You could have the metal melted down to another piece of jewelry..if he wants to get top dollar, try selling it into the classifieds, if he wants closure, I'd either melt it down, or go for classifieds, and not know what the ring was used for afterwards, just sell it, get it over with, and then once it's gone, he can then move on.

At least she had enough class to return it.
Why don't you get him to let you take it to the pawn shop for an appraisal, then put it on EBay with the offer as the minimum bid and twice that offer as the "Buy it Now" price.

Some jewelry stores will alow you to "trade up" a ring.....like give it back and get something bigger for less. Or they can take it and make something else with the diamond.

Put it in the local paper people check in there for things like that cheaper than a store. I respect the woman that returned it not too many out there would have done that!Good Luck!

Try selling the ring on ebay. Or have the diamond removed from the setting and made into something you might wear.

It should be his decision on what to do with it~you have given him options in what to do with it~now you just need to leave it up to him~
as for me~I return ALL the jewelry that has been bought for me by stupid men who walk around breaking hearts~and I personally don't care what they have to do with it, in order to get rid of it~cause it is not my problem~STOP buying stupid jewelry for girls, if men would show more love and affection instead of showing how much money they can spend~we wouldn't have this problem!!!!!!!!

If he offered the hoop, it is going to be returned to him. The courts have come to the determination that engagement rings are 'conditional assets'. to verify that a woman to income finished possession of an engagement ring, she needs to marry the guy that gave it to her. If the dating ends till now the marriage happens, she is obligated to return the hoop. i assume it may be the same for a marriage ring, if the marriage never definitely occurred.

He is T R I P P I N'. The best option for him is to throw it in the lake. Nonsensical to the rest of us, but when you suggest it, I BET he takes his wishy washy brokenhearted behind to a jeweler or pawn shop. Try him.
