Scott there is no formula for 4 stroke h/p per cubic inch.Horse power is the effort required to lift 33000 lbs one foot in one Min Cubic inches is the engine capacity or its size.Go to how stuff works on yahoo to see this .Hope this helps Mick.

Generally speaking, you can hope for 1 horsepower (also 1 foot pound of torque) per cubic inch, max (but factories don't build them like this).
