I suppose you can if you want to - you definately should not wear white! Most people just keep black for funerals - weddings are supposed to be about light, happy, bright colours. However I don't see why you can't wear black if you want to. Why not ask the bride and see what she thinks - it is her wedding!

Actually I was shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding the other day, and found myself asking the same question. According to other females in my life, black is ok...but only to an evening wedding. I think it matters more which type of dress you get, rather then the color. I ended up buying a strapless evening gown...in black.

Black is definitely okay. In fact I went to a wedding back in October and I swore I wish I would have worn black, cause almost everyone both on the bride and groom's side wore black. If you go to Nordstrom.com and click under dresses, they can also give you ideas on what to wear for an evening wedding, etc. Make sure to have fun at the wedding and remember, it's the brides day. The focus is to put all the attention on her and not you :)

absolutely. are you the mother of the bride or just a guest? if you are the mother is would be more appropriate to wear another color as black does have a certain funeral type look to it. if you are just there as a guest there shouldn't be a problem at all...black is very formal and you're right a lot of bridesmaids are wearing black these days. i am a wedding cake desginer and one of the most beautiful wedding i have ever witnessed was the bride in white and the bridesmaids in black with white gloves very classy wedding and it was requested that i do the cake in black and white....mostly white with white roses and black ribbon type things but it was beautiful.

While wearing black to a wedding use to be taboo, it is not a big deal anymore. But, use your own judgment. Is this a young couple getting married, or someone who may be a bit more old-fashioned in their ways? Is the dress fun and appropriate for a wedding? Good luck.

As it's an evening wedding in the fall, I would think wearing black would be fine. Black's a standard color for evening dresses and unless the invitation specifically requested no dark colors (I've actually been to weddings where that has been the case) you'll be fine in black. :]

Yes you can wear a black dress to the wedding because it adds elegance to the wedding and most people will be wearing black so you won't stand out

Deffinitely don't wear white because it takes away from the bride. Go ahead and wear black but make it cheery by adding some brighter jewelry pieces. Have fun at the wedding!

Wearing anything to a wedding, color-wise, is fine. As long as it is proper and doesn't call attention from the bride.
It would be most appropriate for an evening wedding, but morning is fine too.
Don't listen to those who say "black is for funerals," since that rule doesn't apply any more either!

Are you looking to be the center of attraction at the wedding, with everyone looking at you and wondering why you wore black?
But if you think the center of attraction should be the bride, then wear a less controversial color.
