Well, answer to this question is certain provided you know the anatomy of the heart. One of the main things about our heart is that the Left Ventricle is much bigger than the right ventricle ans that it is also provided with more cardiac muscles , as it has to pump the oxygenated blood to different parts of the body through the aorta. So, as it is bigger, it touches the base first, thus, making the whole heart slightly bent towards the left and not the right. Hope it is clear...

Basically there is a limited amount of space in the cavity.

Actually we are lop sided all over. Your liver is pretty much triangle shaped with the bulk being on your right side.

And your right lung is bigger, so much so that it is divided into 3 lobes, not 2 like your left lung.

Of course the left lung is smaller since the heart is taking up some real estate on that side.

Plus we have to tuck in things like the stomach and spleen. Which play favorites on sides too.

Oddly enough some people come as a mirror reverse, all their innards are there, but just like you were looking in the mirror. That is part of the reason why they like to take an xray before they operate, just to make sure things are where they expect to find them.

during the foetal development, when the heart is being formed, the left ventricle and atrium grow a bit faster than their left counterparts. due to this, the heart shifts to the left.

as the left ventricle is bigger than the right ventricle, so it takes a larger area, thus the heart is tilted to the left.
