Your best option would be to redefine your definition of "weeds" to exclude all the weeds you have now.

The only thing that will permanently remove weeds is asphalt. And, even then they'll try to peek through. Keep in mind you'll even see weeds poking up through cement.

But, since I'm pretty sure that you don't want to pave over your yard, I can give a little bit better advice.

First, there are weed killers and weed preventers. Start with the weed killers (like Roundup, etc.) These will kill existing weeds that have already started. But, you also need to use a time-release weed control product, like Preen or a similar brand. This time release product helps stop weeds from germinating. But it takes about a month to see an impact, and in the meantime you need to keep killing the existing weeds with the weed killer. You'll need to reapply the weed preventer once a month or so, and be pretty diligent (like at least weekly) in using the weed killer. Also, nothing works better than just pulling them out by the roots by hand--- I highly recommend using both pulling the weeds and using Roundup on the stubborn ones.

But--- unless you want to go the ChemLawn route, you'll probably always have some weeds... they're just a fact of life. I personally am not a huge fan of chemicals, so round up is about as far as I'll go.... I don't want to put heavy duty herbicides anywhere that I walk in bare feet.

Best of luck!

Hot Top,Cement, A High rise apt. Other than that there is no permanent solution!
There is a product called PREEN it is a pre emerging weed seed killer. It will keep all weed seed from germinating in your garden!
The problem is no GOOD seed will germinate either. So any new plants you plant must be established plants with a root system. not a seed directly sewn into the ground.
I believe Preen is good for a year, but check the label for sure.

First of all, relax. Weeds are just a part of gardens and lawns. It's better to try to control them than to irradicate them. Some of them have benefits such as fixing nitrogen in the soil or attracting bees and other beneficial creatures.

The best way to permanently get rid of a weed is to pull it or dig it out with the roots.

There is a product on the market called Vegemec or Pramitol. These are ground sterilizers. Keeps everything from growing for up to 12 months.

There is a product called "Vegetation Killer"

but be VERY careful with this stuff. It will kill anything you get it on and will not allow anything to grow in this area for one year. Ortho called it "Triox" in the past. May go by a different name now.

Pour a barrel of toxic waste all over your lawn. That should take care of the weeds for good.
