yes, there are more girls than boys pursuing education. We realized a long time ago, that we would need to use our assests to compete. Yet, we still don't get paid for equal work.

C'mon, guys, what is the REAL reason? No speculation, no trying to make it make sense, the TRUE reason.

so, women are defined by their ability to have children. I am 32, and have no children. I pay as much as any man, and work as hard. I get no tax breaks for NOT having children, why should I be PENALIZED on my paycheck for having a uterus?

wmcritter, as soon as women were allowed to compete, we have seen women's soccer, boxing, and basketball give men's a run for their money. Perhaps if you stopped holding us back, you would see more of it, more often

I agree, just about a year ago a friend of mine was promoted at the same time a male coworker was promoted too into same level positions. She found out he was making a lot more than she was. She approached the company with the issue and after a long battle with them, she got her pay increase to match his. But then the company took away the paid benefits they had been providing. They even cited her case as to why they quit paying for the employees benefits they provided.

I hate to point out the obvious, but men and women are not equal.
I'm not saying women are not as good, I'm just saying we're different.
For one thing, men don't get pregnant. Pregnancy has a way of interupting career paths. Whereas a man can get 20 years of uninterupted experience in a fied, it is less likely that a woman will have that same opportunity.
For another thing, even though the job may be equal, that doesn't mean it is equal. Take professional sports for example. Men and women both play basketball. It is the exact same job, but women get paid far less than men. However, this has nothing to do with discrimination, it is simple economics and market forces. Male sports have a much larger audience, so there is more money to be made, and more money to be paid.
There probably are some isolated cases of discrimination out there. But for the most part, it is just market forces; people get paid what they are worth.

John Stossel did a report on this on ABC's 20/20 called myth, Lie's, and down right stupidity. He asked one of the leaders and head honchos of the women's right movement about why do women get paid less.
This women's right women said that men get paid more because they are willing to do jobs women won't do. They work out in the elements. They do a lot more heavy lifting, they do dirtier jobs, more dangerous jobs then women.
Hell the women being interviewed brought up a good point. She said "if women really got paid less then men for doing the same kinds of jobs then men would never be able to get a job". The reason? because if your an employer why would you hire a man that you have to pay more money an hour too when you can get by cheaper by hiring a women.
Men do dirtier, harder, more dangerous, back breaking, risky work that women won't do. I have been working in construction and maintenance work my whole life. I have been to plenty of job sites. I have never once seen a women at any of them.

I have to disagree.
Women get paid the same as blokes but there is the small thing about women having many months off when they have a baby.
DON'T get me wrong, I think its a damn miracle and hard work on your part BUT it isn't the companies problem but they lose a member of staff for MONTHS at a time when this happens.
There are also a high number of women (I know many) of whom are in the same job as a bloke but when the work gets heavy or strenuous, they give it the "You do it coz your a man..." card and if they miss a promotion over a man, it is sexist but when the shoe is on the other foot, it is equal opportunities.
again, no disrespect meant.

Personally I think women are a larger risk for leaving a company than a man. Not that I don't think equal pay shouldn't happen, but if a woman decides to start a family she is more likely to leave the workplace than a man therefore can be more costly for a company.

Could you please provide statistics. I actually watched a report on CNN that says that there is a gender gap in Universities in the US, with more girls than boys pursuing higher education.

Because there will always be women who still believe in raising their kids instead of striving for career advancement. They bring down the average.
