Dog. They aren't as independent. More loyal to their owners. Every once in a while you'll see a cat go the extra mile for it's owner in the case of a severe emergency. With dogs, it's almost routine.
Dogs can play more games. (When's the last time you saw a cat catch a Frisbee?) Dogs provide better security. Chances are you won't see a Fe-9 unit appearing at your local police force anytime soon. (Not to mention, are you ever really intimidated by a cat?) Dogs can work at a variety of jobs, from sheep herder to clown. Cats usually work at catching zzz's and coughing up hairballs.
I could go on, but I'll stop here.

actually, i used to be allergic to cats and i recently grew out of it.

they are my fave animals, but really the question "DOG OR CAT?" has so many variables b/c cats and kittens can be playful, cute, energetic, grouchy, or mean, as well as dogs and puppies so really it depends on the breed and gender(maybe) and the personality of the particular dog, cat, puppy, and kitten you are talking about. and if both the puppy and kitten and dog and cat have the EXACT same personality wich is literally impossible you could choose by the look.Really, choosing between a dog and a cat or anything at all depends on what you're lookin for.

I say dog but I do love cats too. Dogs just seem more in tune with your feelings. I know when I'm sad, my dog can tell and my cat just continues to sleep in the sun.

Dogs and cats are great for companions. I've had both. Now that I have children, cats are to diva. I can't handle that extra stress. I guess a dog because they are easier to train than a cat.

Cat, I can leave for the weekend with water, food, and a sandbox. With a dog you have to be guilty leaving it for more than 8 hours thinking, "I couldn't hold it that long, why should he have to?"
Cat breath is also more contained. Dogs pant on you and you can't get away from the stink.

I have both, and they each are wonderful in their own ways. The dog loves me unconditionally, the cat puts me in my place with just a look. Dogs think they're human, cats think they're gods! The dog and cats are great buddies, by the way - it's great to watch them interact with one another.

I do not prefer one over the other, instead I love both for thier unique traits and habits and I do not compare them to one another. Dogs are different from cats in many ways, but it does not make them better and vice versa. Dogs are pack animals, cats are not... because of this many people think dogs are more affectionate and cats are more aloof, in truth cats are just as affectionate and loving but they are not as needy as dogs because they are instinctively self reliant. Dogs need to love someone to be happy cats only love people because they want to and truly do not need companionship to be content. Truly dogs love people because it is in thier nature to have social relationships with others, cats love people despite thier solitary nature and do not need to have social relationships with others. I love them both for different reasons, and I refuse to choose one over the other. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats and I love them all equally!!

Dog, cause they like to do more with their owners, you know, fun, protection. They can also be trained do almost anything. They sense when things are wrong and try to help, some have even saved lives(not being trained to). They can swim and save, help blind people and love to go new places. I can see myself talking to my dog when I am sad or something, but to a cat. They don't seem to care.Maybe dogs don't understand, but they can pay attention.

All animals should be indoor animals,to be protected from harm. That is our job as we protect children.Cats are great because you can leave them alone and take time away,as long as you leave plenty of water ,food and a couple of litter boxes. You know yourself how independent they can be,and they will survive.Dogs are just wonderful pets, loving always there to greet you ,but draw back ,you are stuck unless you have a family member or fiend that will take the time to watch over them properly,if you need some time away.Kennel not recommended except at last resort.
