I saw a special on a cable channel about North Korea. I don't really know what's going on there. A man was secretly video taping the children that were starving as well as filming the terrible living conditions in North Korea. What happened to their economy and why don't they have food? If someone could tell me what's going on in North Korea, I would greatly appreciate it.

North Korea's dictator Kim Jung IL, has decided that it's more important for his country to develop nuclear wepons, and spend a million dollars a year on cognac, than to feed the Korean people. His most recent tirade, threatening to start a war with China and the U.S. is the same sabre rattling he did during the Clinton administration. Clinton caved in and sent millions to North Korea. Bush, has chosen not to repeat Clinton's mistakes, and is pursuing other options.

Meanwhile, the North Korean people suffer. And don't get the idea, that sending humanitarian aid to North korea would help much. All humanitarian aid sent there is seized by the government, and sold on the black market.

Finally, I'd bet good money that if the U.S. attempted to interefere in North Korean affairs, you would be one of the first to yell loudly that the U. S. were Imperialist War Mongers.

north korea is a stalinist dictatorship that is not interested in contact with the outside world because such contact might endanger the "dear leader" kim jong il's powerbase. what happened to their economy is quite simply just that - you cannot have a healthy economy if you don't have contact with the outside world because no country can cover all its needs with domestic production. also, whatever little money is actually generated in north korea mostly goes into government koffers for military spending and domestic security, i.e. protecting kim jong il and his hangers on and letting them have a nice life, so there is very little left for things like healthcare, education and other things you might need to make a country function. that's also the reason they're starving there, when there's a bad harvest they won't admit it to the world and so nobody can come in and help.

What is going on in NK? Well the people are starvingbecause they can't grow enough food to feed themselves, the economy is in the sewer, and the head of the government (who is an idiot) is spending everything he can to build a nuclear bomb.
