Christian / Jewish / Muslim faith would have you believe it was God, who either created the elements or came upon them (depends on your preferred translation of the holy text in question) and then made the Universe.
And it was good.
Other faiths will have you believe other things. In Greek myth, the universe hatched from an egg laid by Nyx, a giant black bird. In Taoism, it is said that the Tao itself is older than God.
But here's the thing, why can't the universe and the laws and matter and energy that make it up just have always been there? Physical reality without a true beginning and eternal, without end.
"That doesn't make any sense." Say the critics of this idea. "There has to be a creator."
Okay fine. So then who created the creator? What came before him / her / it? And what created that creator?
See? No matter how you think about it, you have the have something that doesn't have a beginning, or that self created. We have no evidence of God (nor can we according to many faiths) but we DO have evidence of the universe all around us. There it is, right there. Something has to have either a) always been there or b) spawned from nothingness all on its own. I say it is what surrounds us. Our magnificent, staggeringly beautiful and infinitely dangerous universe. Look up at the night sky and be humbled by its wonder.
Or say it's God, or Nyx, or the Tao. Its really up to you since no one currently knows what the beginning of time looked like. Just think for yourself. Question, learn and experiment. That's what science is all about.

An Omnipotent and omni present God could be elsewhere before our universe was created. But what really blows my mind,...before creation, there was nothing....not even empty space!!
As a side note:
Someone above me in the list posted;
"People who have deep faith in God generally say science is evil."
This is not true. I believe in God and like to study the sciences, specifically astronomy and cosmology. And still, most of it is unknown to us and probably always will be. There are several things I have learned from astronomy that confirms and deepens my belief in God.
It's just a guess that the Christians vs. scientists issue is based mostly on evolution. Just as a note, Darwin's Origin of the Species on which evolution is based was written only a THEORY.
To my knowledge, there is still no concrete evidence that proves evolution. There are several examples that make it a possibility, but nothing yet has proved it as fact.

The whole "energy can't be created or destroyed" thing is old hat. Virtual particles come in and out of existence all the time. And the physics from before the big bang were different than they are now. There weren't even particles or 4 different forces before the big bang.

Actually, the though that a god might be there freaks me out even more, as who know what he might be up to next?
The truth of the matter is, we do not have any way of finding out what was there before. Another previous universe that collapsed? Something similar to the stuff I forgot last month at the back of my fridge? Nothing at all?
Science is about what we can know, observe, duplicate. The beginning of the univers is not something we can experiment, therefore speculation about this is not a scientific debate.

Before the "Big Bang," there was nothing...no universe. This means no time, no energy, no space, no matter. All the space, time, energy and matter came from a singularity, an infinitely dense, dimension-less point. It's something so far outside of our experience and knowledge that we can't conceive of it.

Time is a slippery subject. Relativity Theory has shown how flexible time can actually be. "Out of time" to me means non-existence. So "before" time make no sense. There is no "before." Time began. There was nothing "before" that. Unless you want to go into multiverse theory. At least many aspects of relativity theory have been proven to an ever finer degree of accuracy. Multiverse theory is the most theoretical of theories, it's a nice idea but impossible to test. You will get answers more to your liking in the "Religion/Spirituality" category, I think.

Even scientists have proven that Jesus existed. So it is the people's stubborness that keep them from seeing the beyond. If God didn't exist, I'm sure we would have all of our questions answered by now. How can the universe be formed out of nothing?

None of this bothers me in the least. I take the world as I find it, and manipulate it as I can to suit my convenience and pleasure. Since there is no such thing as a soul (or at least no way to establish its separate existence), I am not concerned with such.

an advice
Science + Sprituality = KABOOM!!
People who have deep faith in God generally say science is evil..well atleast some of them say.(which we know is false.Science is just an instrument of man.Its upto him how he uses it,for good(medicines) or bad(bombs))
Science does not recognise any supernatural omnipotent being which we call "GOD" nor does science recognise "SOUL" because there is no evidence till now.
So,keep the two things as far away as possible and try not to think about it much as it will only confuse you even more.Practice them both, but try not to mix them.

No scientific proof for faith. So don't try to attempt to find one. God and the faith is the symptom of ones own stupidity. Nothing else.
