I work for a living. I work my tail off to make the money I have. If another man has the same job as I but is a lazy bastard and does one third as much work as I do you think he should receive the same pay, the same benenfits?

How can anyone under such circumstances defend solialism?

Equal pay for the same amount of work is the only fair, moral way to go. Yes, women get screwed in a man's world.

jpx (above) is pretty incorrect about social programs here. Simultaneously, our healthcare system - left up to the market - has failed 50 million Americans - that's 1 in 6 people who can't get effective healthcare.

I don't think an entirely socialist system would work effectively (especially in a large, highly populated nation like our - in a smaller, more homogenous nation, it may work better). However, I don't think pure capitalism is safe either. As we have done in this nation - especially post-Robber Barons - is the best system. Our economy is mostly capitalist with government oversight and some social programs. It takes some tweaks from time to time, sure, but it's the best system around at present. There are a great deal of tweaks that need to be made right now, especially, as younger generations are smaller in number than older generations - resulting in the difficulty of continuing things like Medicare and Social Security. That said, the healthcare system is in need of serious repair as the profit-interests of the insurance industry, private hospitals, and doctors have taken a much greater role than patient care and have resulted in the degradation of our system of healthcare and have locked out far too many Americans from decent healthcare - and preventative healthcare which would benefit all of us.

As a woman who works as hard, if not harder, than every man in your profession, and is STILL fighting for equal pay, you may not like my answer: Your wage negotiation skills suck and that has nothing to do with being a woman.

If you work hard for a company, you're a sucker. They reward hard work by giving you more. The lazy bastard is just smarter than you are, he's figured out he can do far less and make just as much.

Socialism never works...look at the social programs in this country...they are all going to fail or have failed.
