I like EG345. And I would like to add that Dell users are considered unprofessional in any technologically savvy business - IBM is probably where "professionalism" makes it's stand.
Compaq was designed to be something of an underdog in the budget PC market that Dell mostly dominated. Hp bought Compaq to get in on the business, because they mostly did printers back then.

As I see it, they both put out some pretty shoddy work, though Dell is the most consistantly shoddy. HP's got a few gems out there, and Dell... well, if you're a fan of no-name weak/poor quality parts and mediocre craftsmanship, Dell's the company for you. I know a bit less about HP, but I've been pretty impressed with them lately. I used to tech for a company that worked only with Dell computers, and we had hundreds of lemons. People coming every other week with a major problem... though I never saw some of the users, so I assume their computers were great. I'd rather go Toshiba for laptops.

All business people do not use Dell. We are currently dumping Dell for HP for two reasons, quality and price. We buy thousands of computers a year so we are not just talking about an idle decision. Dell has had some real quality issues in the last few years, like bad capacitors on motherboards, causing us to replace hundreds and hundreds of motherboards on 2 - 3 year old machines. HP is not perfect but definitely better than the alternative.

Dell, Yes Dell, all bussiness people use Dell, the ONLY reason why Dell was no good during that time on TV, is that they had alot to make, When you order a Dell or any computer. Make sure you change on thing with that PC. For an Example: Can you add more ram for me, or bigger hard drive... Therefor when they build it they will take the time to make sure its in there and working. HP is OK. They add to much software to there PC's. I service computers for a living, I have more calls on a HP than anyother. If you have any other questions please email me...

I've had an HP laptop for 2 years now and it has performed well for me.
Also, it was affordable for me at the time, compared to other pc brands.
I've heard some negative stories about Dell computers, such as one that made the news recently by spontaneously exploding (while unattended to fortunately).
Dells are generally cheaper than HPs and most other pc brands, but it may be due to a sacrifice in quality, so personally, I would go with HP.

i've had HP products for years and have had no troubles. Just bought a new laptop from them and love it. Their prices were VERY GOOD and customer service has been very good too.

I don't like Dell because they only offer Intel processors, wheres HP Offers both Intel and AMD processors.

Oh and just like Dell, you can customize your PC to whatever you want.

I would have to go with Dell, for price and after sales service. I found them to be very good and quick.
