First of all, don't go to a cheap jewelry store at the mall because they use a piercing gun and it is NOT SANITARY. They use the jewelry to pierce your skin and it hurts a lot more, plus they "clean" the gun, but blood can still splatter on the clamp and infect you. I have also watched some of these places and the employees don't wash their hands between piercings. That is totally disgusting. I work in healthcare and that is totally unacceptable.

Go to a professional piercing shop. They use a needle, which is very sharp and you will barely feel it. They use a brand new needle every time and discard it after one use. They are professionally trained and certified. They are inspected and very clean. Even if their storefront is decorated gothic, the rooms they take you in to do the piercing look like doctor's offices. They will also help you feel comfortable and relax. Just make sure they wash their hands in front of you and put on a clean pair of gloves and get out a brand new needle.

You will be fine, ear piercings don't hurt very much or for long. When they do the piercing, try to breathe out during the stick, it will help you to relax and it will hurt less.

Whatever you do, don't drink alcohol or take aspirin because it thins out your blood and makes you bleed more. Some piercing shops won't pierce you if you have had any pain medications because of this.

I would go with a friend or your mom as moral support so that you can hold their hand as you get your ears pierced. I'd also try to take some advil or tylenol about an hour or two before you get your ears pierced so you don't feel the pain as much. Be sure to eat something before taking the medication, cause you don't want to run the risk of ruining your liver. Best of luck to you. And trust me, as a person who hates needles and blood, when I got it done not only was it quick, but it was rather painless. It was almost like someone who pinched me either on the cheek or the shoulder.

Just calm down and breathe. Ear piercing is not much different from getting a shot. Ask the person who is performing the piercing if they can have someone else to pierce the other simultaneously. Remember, it's just a quick sting and it's over. It will be okay. Don't dwell on it. Just do it if you really want to. Also, think about all the pretty earrings that you will be able to wear when it's all done. Good luck.

Getting your ears pierced is truly no big deal but it can be intimidating on the first occasion.

One thing you really need to focus on to calm your nerves is forgetting about the stress. It's like when you're feeling sick and keep thinking about it actually makes it worse but by focusing on something else will make you feel better.

Another thing to realize is that it is not so weird for you to be frightened. It is a normal phenomenon, I as well as many others went through the same thing. It is normal. You are not alone.

Oh, I was nervous about getting my ears pierced too. I asked a bunch of my friends who already had ear piercings whbat it was like. They said it just felt like a tiny pinch and the pain only lasted for a second. I agree, when i got it pierced it only hurt for a split second. Plus it helps if you have family or a friend next to you while they pierce. My mom said to squeeze her hand as tight as it hurt, and that helped a little. Just relax, it doesnt hurt as much as you think it would. After you get it pierced remind yourslef to leave your starter earrings in for 6 months before you start changing earrings and stuff.

my son pierced his own ear at a friends house....and hes only 8!!! (of course when he got home I whipped his butt and doctored it up) but seriously......its not gonna hurt that bad. If he could do it the old fashioned way, then Im sure youll live through the quick way they do at stores. My daughter got hers pierced when she turned 6 and she didnt cry. Tell them to do both at the same time. Thats what they did for my daughter. It will take 2 people, but most places will if they have extra help there. Good luck....its only a small pinch.

Don't worry. It doesn't hurt at all. It's like a pinch and then it's done. I've heard the cartalige hurts a little bit more, but if you're getting it done professionally, it probably wont be too bad.If you really want to know what it feels like, just pinch your ear lobe with your fingernails.

Ahhh! That's so sweet! OK, to calm your nerves...if you are over 21, have a glass of wine before you go. (about 1/2 before). Either way, take two Motrin 1/2 before as well. You will do just great!

don't worry. It's really quite painless.
I got mine pierced in April, and I was terrified. In fact, right now, pinch your ear REALLY hard and quickly.
That's what it feels like. Really. I know, that's what everyone says, but it's true.

to calm nerves, imagine all those nice earrings you can wear! ^_^

word of advice- buy earrings you can sleep with, cause I spent the whole first week lying on my back sleeping.
