If we go back to the words' origins, yes, "fabulous" would probably win:
"amazing" means "causing wonder, astonishment; surprising"
"fabulous" means "suggesting a fable [Latin fabula]; scarcely believable"
In modern meaning and practice, there is scarcely any difference (esp. when "fabulous" is used to describe a vacation!)

No, you are describing two different things. If a dog came up to you and said, hello. That would be amazing.
If a girl got a new back dress and looked really great in it and asked her friends how do I look? that would be fabulous. see the difference?

Well, it IS a little more gay, but I'd say it's better. Things could be really really bad but still be amazing. Like the democrats. I'm amazed at some of the crap they say just to get back into power.

Fabulous normally refers to good in a dazzling/glam sort of way...
Amazing however can be something you are looking at that is Amazing because it's mind-boggling good ...or mind boggling bad...or just straight-up mind-boggling..
But Fabulous....normally is referring to a sequined gown or a pink feathered boa...lol

In my opinion, amazing is a better word and expresses what you can't your eyes can't put into words.
