I am having trouble with head lights on a 1990 ford ranger. When I put the light switch in the parking light position no lights work, in the lights on position, head lights work but parking lights and dash lights don't. I changed the light switch, that did not help. The wiring diagram shows that the lights are wired through what they call a multi-function switch. I have no idea what this looks like or where it is located. Can anyone help with this problem?

Multi- switch is on the steering column, very easy to replace. the screws to the column cover are just below the steering wheel.,
remove about 4 screws ,seperate the plastic covers ,take a 15mm or 20 mm torx driver to remove the switch
That's it............

if you have any accessories hooked up to the wrong hot wire it can short things like that out , or the lights can be overloaded i would go to a scrap yard and get another light harnes and if you feel like fixing it yourself buy some 16 gauge wire and switches and make it to where you can switch the lights on or park lights on or both

The multi function switch is your turn signal / highbeam/low beam switch on your steering column. it is the problem, I had a 96 ranger that the headlights would just go out wiggling the switch would eventually bring them back on.
