It is probably best to take your vitamins with a little bit of food. if you take them on any empty stomach you might become a bit nauseous. If your vitamins have niacin in them you may feel a bit flushed. I take centrum silver with no ill effect.

Researchers at a medical conference in Cairns have heard that taking high doses of antioxidants such as vitamin C and E does not protect against heart attacks.
A Western Australian study has found that high doses of vitamin E might have some side effects.
Researchers from the University of Western Australia's school of Medicine gave high doses of vitamin E to two groups of patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Professor Kevin Croft says researchers were surprised to find that the blood pressure of many patients went up.
"It's of some concern, we don't want to increase blood pressure in people who may already have an increased risk of heart disease," he said.
He says eating a diet high in fruits, vegetables and cereals is a better way to boost antioxidant intake, rather than taking supplements.

generally having an allergic reaction to vitamins is minimal. however taking large doses of vitamins can be harmful. it was prooven scientifically that a high doses of vitamine A causes osteoporosis on a long time scale (20 year of hight level of retinol cause this)...
so it is importnat to restrict the intake of vitamines to the recommended dose.
personally i advice healthy poeple to have a pill of vitamins per week not more...

i don't think you can be allergic to the vitamins themselves, but you possibly could be allergic to the "vehicle", the additives added to the pill form to make it a pill. check out the ingredients panel, and ask your doctor.
