I'm really worried as it's covering a tall unsupported wall and I can see it crashing down with fatal results if nothing is done rather quickly! As this is a serious question, NO TIME WASTERS PLEASE AND ALL DOPEY ANSWERS FROM THOSE WHO KNOW NO BETTER will be reported. I haven't got time to read a load of old nonsence. Equally, all helpful and serious answers will be acknowledged. Many thanks. Eb#

I used weedol and it was useless!! Ivy is a nightmare to get rid of. Try creosote, I know it sounds mad but it does work..

Take the ivy down while its still living as when its dead it hardens and you can`t get it off the brickwork (from experience)!!

Cut the ivy at the bottom and paint on the creosote.

good luck x

Cut the main stems as close to the ground as possible, then cut out about a 6"-12" length of the growing stem.
Kill the roots with a good weed killer.
Leave whats on the wall to die, DO NOT try to remove it unless you wish to repoint the whole wall.

I have heard that if you soak an attached branch in round-up or shrub killer for a few days, it will die back to the root. (By soaking, I mean letting it soak in a jar or a bottle.)
