Can anyone tell me exactly why and how this trouble started? What is it all about?

Hezbollah terrorist group has taken over in Lebanon. Hezbollah is responsible for suicide bombings of the US Embassy, which killed 63, including 17 US Citizens, of the US MArine barracks in Beirut in 1983, killing 241 US Servicemen, and for the French multinational force headquarters which killed 58 French troops. They have set up camp amongst the civilian people of Lebanon, with the full permission of the Lebanese government. Any innocent people dying can thank their OWN government for allowing a terrorist organization to exist among them.

Israel has been attacked by them numerous times and recently had two Isreali troups kidnapped by them. Israel has had enough.

And East Med is wrong, Israel is not occupying any land by the land given to them by partion. It's just that the Arabs are sore losers.

The Jews run out of water. They tricked the Lebanese to rid off the Syrians off the Litany are where plenty of fresh water all through the year & and occupied the Shabaa farms where the water is.
Currently the Jews buy the water from the Turks. Occupying Lebanon will guarantee the free fresh water.

Reminds me the occupation of the Oasis in Egypt, and the taxes they imposed on the Egyptians some 3000 years ago.Same story, same people, same tricks- Some people never learn.

I do totally agree with (EastMed) above.

He/she is telling facts.

I would add:
the situation Israel is creating in lebanon is as follows:
A attacked B. then B attacked C.
Israel could not face the brave fighters of Hezbulla in the battlefield, so they went for civillians all over Lebanon. They thought that the civilians will be intimidated and start to hate Hezbulla.... but contrary to that, all the Lebanese have been unified....cuz they know that Israel is targetting them (as civilians and infrastucture) intentionally and on purpose.

SEEMS to me that Israel's ideology measures victory according to the number of deaths on the other part. THEY are wrong, cuz the casualties on the Lebanese side were not fighting at all ... they are families of about 4 or 5 children each ...

THAT means: out of about 1050 deaths in Lebanon ... we have about 600 children. Some of them were just ONE-DAY OLD.

I had basically the same question last week, asking what were the motivations of the terrorists. One answerer sent a great link that points out in an unbias fashion the various differences in the Lebanon issue, as well as some good historical facts.

Well...
1. Israel is occupying Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian lands.
2. Israel has many Lebanese prisoners in its prisons,
3. Israel is not accepting to free these prisoners diplimatically and through UN resolution.
4. Hezbollah kidnaped 2 Israeli soldiers in order to ask for a prisonner exchance.
5. Israel doesn't accept prisoner exchange with others, but allows itself to always kidnap arab and put them in its prison.
6. Israel, after the kidnap of 2 of its soldiers, started a war on Lebanon claiming the war is only on Hezbollah.
7. The war started on July 12th,
Israel has since killed 1000 Lebanese civilians
1/3 of them are children below the age of 12
and destroyed every bridge and road in Lebanon
making it impossible for many people to escape from their regions to other places.
1,000,000 (1 million) Lebanese citizens are displaced and now living in public gardens or schools.
No more fuel in the country
many hospitals are closed because no electricity, no fuel, ...
Israel is telling western media that it is defending itself

Jews and Arabs have hated each other for at least the last 4000 years. Since neither side really has any men of honor, both sides will use any excuse to kill the other. If it's not about territory, then it's about prisoners, or about housing or just the fact that one side sees that the other exists. These unreasoning brutish animals don't need a reason to kill each other.

The Arabs once again broke their agreement and went onto Israeli land and KIDNAPPED, not captured (you cannot "capture" a soldier during peaceful times on sovereign soil), Israeli soldiers. When Israel fought back, and demanded their soldiers back the Arabs started crying foul. Fact is, anyone who stands for the Arabs hates Jews, just like the Arabs. The Arabs will not stop the suicide bombs and terror until all of the Jews and anyone supporting capitalism is dead. And any of you about to scream about that, well, you love your capitalism and would cry like babies without your SUVs and all your materialism.

The problem in Lebanon was started by a radical wing/terrorist organization based in Lebanon, Hezbollah. Hezbollah was created in 1982, its political platform has consistently called for the destruction of Israel. 3 times in the past, Arab countries have attacked Israel in attempt to destroy them, Israel was able to take Arab land during those wars, which has made Israels enemies even angrier. As part of a 2005 United Nations resolution, Israel agreed to withdraw from these territories and Hezbollah was supposed to disarm. Israel followed the resolution, but Hezbollah did not. Hezbollah is known to be funded by Iran, who also agrees with the destruction of Israel, and has been the subject of UN and international pressure to stop its Nuclear program, probably as a distraction, Palestinian gunmen, (Hamas) entered Israel from the south on June 25th and abducted a soldier, Hezbollah began launching rockets from the north into Israel, (residential areas) as they would frequently do from time to time, followed by Hezbollah entering Israel and abducting 2 more Israeli soldiers and demanding some 1300 prisoners be released from Israeli jail. Naturally Israel opted to counter-strike with force, leading to a series of strikes against Lebanese targets and more rocket launches by Hezbollah into Israel. One serious problem is that Hezbollah intentionally hides its weapons and fires them from within civillian areas, clearly with the intention of making Israel appear to be targeting civillians. The root of the problem is not just that Israel exists, but that radical Islamic fundamentalists are racist and intollerant of anyone who doesn't conform to their way of life.
