Going to a community college is a very good idea. It will allow you to show how well you can do in the US educational system, and also improve your written and spoken English. As you approach graduation, go to the transfer office at the school and have them help you decide which Bachelor's programs to apply to, as well as which admissions tests you'll have to take.

Essex County College is a good two year school. Once you graduate, you could go to Rutgers, or Columbia, or almost any other school of your choice.

It can be, sure. It will probably be the cheapest option, which is great! If you do exceptionally well at a community college and you have great SATs you'll have a shot at transferring to pretty much any university in the US. Ivy League Universities take plenty of community college students every year. :)

Excellent plan! Community colleges are far less expensive than universities and, for the most part, provide a quality education. This way you can minimize expenses while you get settled. Good luck!

Be sure to check with colleges you hope to attend if they accept the credits from community college, which you will attend. Getting in is one thing, Getting in with less credits to buy is another.
