So why are pictures of Diana in that crash not allowed to be seen. All the other people who are photographed no doubt have family members who would rather not see the images of their loved ones.

In the UK we see dead people in the press all the time. I know that in the US censorship is even more stringent than here in the UK

Actually I don't think there are pictures of dead or mutilated bodies all over the media. Think about it.
I disagree - in the UK you don't see pictures of dead/mutilated bodies "all over the media". There's plenty being slaughtered in Lebanon right now but you don't get to see the bodies.

It's the politics behind it. The people in charge had the power to censor the media because of her popularity. They didn't want that to be the lasting image of her.
Also, alot of the dead and mutilated bodies in the media are there for a purpose. The shock factor is supposed to influence your views on the wars in Lebannon and Iraq. Saying that Diana had died was enough shock factor that gruesome images wern't needed to say the publics view.
Hope this helps!

Until recently, it was possible to see the movie called: Istina (truth), in www.srs.org.yu . If you search the Yahoo or Google engine, you may found it now. This is a movie about the truth in connection to the recent Balkan wars. Mutilated bodies of Serbs are seen there, because it is not them, but their murderers who should be ashamed. As Nikolic (Dr. Seselj's deputy) puts it: You may cry as you see the movie, and you shouldn't be ashamed. Those who make us cry are the ones who should be ashamed.

I guess if the general public doesn't know who the person is then they are not view as being that important so they just flash them on TV like its no problem. However, you are right even families of no name people have rights and they don't want to experience these tragic incidents over and over. I thought there had to be some kind of permission for things like that.

I have never seen a mutilated body on the media and it is common practice not to show the corpse of dead Americans on American televisions.

actually, it grew to become into unfavourable. The media has no corporation exhibiting photos of corpses with out warning, no remember who it is. ultimately, I question how sick you could desire to be to decide a ineffective guy's corpse and to lack that plenty empathy. Any human merits extra.

And I would hate to think that mere status elevates Princess Diana over other people.
It is a puzzler and one that is left to the editors of newspapers

Because The Royal Family PAID a whole bunch of money for them NOT to be shown. If they didn't, believe you me, I can guarantee they would have been published.
