My husband and I recently went through an outs. We talked things over and decided our love was too strong to lose. He and I want to start fresh. Do you think it would be a good idea to renew our vows? He wants to ask me to marry him all over again. This would include him buying an engagement ring and a new wedding band. What do you guys think about it? Should we do this and use new rings as an official restart or should we renew with our original rings? Thanks for your help all!

I think his plan was to be like a new engaged couple and wait a couple of monthes to add a wedding band. I think he feels bad because he never formally asked me. Our finances are good so money wouldn't be a big deal.

Renewal is fabulous. Me and my husband do it every 5 years. We have never had a falling out, we just do it to show the strength in our marriage. I think new rings are in order. we always get new rings and I just move the "old" ring to another finger. I know, over the years I may have to stop as I will run out of finger space, but for now, it is what I do.

That is a great idea, and it proves that your love for one another is true. Renewing the vows will help to bring about that fresh start, and I think it is okay to get new rings if you think that is the right thing to do, or you can use the old rings as a symbol of what was once the past and the vows can represent a better and happier future. This way those rings will be there to remind you of your first official wedding day, what has happened and then they can even symbolize great things to come.

Whatever would make the two of you happy. And if you can afford it or not would also play a big part in whether or not you need to exchange new rings. Personally I think the idea of marriage renewal is very romantic and lovable but that a new set of rings will not mean as much as the originals, so would suggest using them again. Best of luck to you both and I hope that your vows are exchanged anew and that you two are very happy with your choice.

OK, if you're going to do this right ...
He buys you a new ring that you like but NOT an engagement ring. Your wedding ring is for life.
Find a wedding chapel in a place that fits your tastes and get all dressed up and do it again.
But the whole thing should basically be private.

Yes you should renew your vows. The whole idea sounds wonderful to me. It would really be romantic. It's up to the both of you about the rings, depending on your finances. Good luck to the both of you.

Lots of people do this..as a simple of their renewed strength in their love of each other.
Take your old rings, and add to them. Don't get rid of them. They symbolize the true beginning.
I know a couple that have been married for nearly 60 years. They renew every 20, and they add a new stone to their bands each time they renew...kinda cool, I think.

My parents had the same troubles, and they got back by renewing their vows, but they didn't get any new rings; they just get themself a locket with each others pictures within it. Also, they make their original rings refinished to make them look new. That way they didn't spend too much money on it and none of them could argue about spending too much money.

Unless you are going to pay cash and not put it on credit, because when it is all done and over with that bill will come and it may start the cycle of rehashing bad things all over again.

I think it is a incredibly romantic idea. And, it's practical too. Re-starting your marriage will help to sweep away the baggage from the old relationhip. It's an awesome idea.
