I was on the river this weekend and got burnt even though I applied a SPF 30 sunscreen on before I went out and reapplied during the trip. We were out for 7 hours, and I got a burn on my thighs and shoulders. The only thing I had with me at the time was my sunscreen and I was wondering if it did any good to put it on after I was red. Does it stop the burn or just prevent sunburns? What's the best thing you can do immediately after a burn if you are camping or still on the road? Now I have aloe vera with lidocane so it's not a big deal now.

Sunscreen after a burn won't do much, but it could contain moisturizers that could make it feel better. The time for sunscreen is obviously during the sun exposure. I find that sunscreen need to reapplied more often than most people do, especially if the uv index is high and you are sweating or active. The best defence is often clothing ( long sleeves and long pants, and a hat). Not fun in the summer, but much healthier in the long run. My mother is in her 60's and now has to deal with skin cancer because of her years in the sun.

No sunscreen after youre already burnt is useless....Applying Moisturizer or Aloe Vera to the Burn will help out alot.

if you are still in the sun then, yes it will help the burn from getting worse. If you are already out of the sun, aloe vera gel works much better. It's best right off the plant, but FREEZE brand works good too!

Only if you plan to stay in the sun. Aloe vera helps after you're done.

Sun Screen only helps prevent sun burn....doesn't treat it.
