Pretty much always check with the local Better Business Bureau in the US or Trading Standards in the Uk or Similar organisation elsewhere. If in doubt avoid, and you should never pay a penny to anybody who is offering you a job even for shoots or anything even if you are getting something in return they will be heavily over charging you, your best bet is to set up an online portfoloi for free and send it to agents this way they can not ask you to pay for a photo shoot. I am offering personal portfoloi sites for free at the moment and they seem to work well, they are expecially good if you are trying to get jobs some distance from where you live you can save an fortune on postage and printing and they get them instantly. All info and examples can be provided if intrested just pm me here and i will fill you in and yes it is free with no strings attached.

Pretty much any outfit that calls itself a "talent scout", or "talent search" etc and tells you they can get you 'into' the entertainment industry is a scam. I challenge anyone to prove otherwise even if they can only find ONE example, because they won't. These places prey and the hopes and dreams of average people who simple don't know any better when it comes to what you really need to do. If you do a search, I've answered many, many times what a person DOES need to do to get into this industry. It's not simple, and it's not easy. But what it this sort of thing (i.e. Proscout, et al) comes down to is NEVER EVER pay a fee for anyone to 'represent' or show you off. The only places you should pay money to is your headshot photographer and whereever you get your reproductions made, as well as if you ever get a reel made of fims, etc that you've made. Anybody who is your representation will ONLY make a percentage (usually 10%) of what you make off actual bookings and work. Never should anything be paid up front. If they ask for money, run away in the opposite direction. And it's really sad because I've told this very advice to various people, and they've ignored and ended up losing a bunch a money, needlessly, and then admit that I was right and that they should have listened to me. Of course, what do I know, I am only an actor.
