Move to NH - no sales or income taxes. Property taxes are "high" but then property values are not - so the property tax you actually pay is reasonable and downright cheap compared to a place like CA, which has low rates and fantastically high values.
Oh, and in NH 90% of your property tax is spent in the town in which you reside. It doesn't get sent off to Sacramento as it is in CA (or Albany in NY, etc.). Result: government by and for the people like in the olden days!
State Motto: Live Free or Die! Translation: No more government than is absolutely necessary.

You just think the feds cut taxes, they cut the rate, but took away deductions.
In the end the truth is they got 1/2 to 3/4 of a % more by changing the rules for deductions.
I'm really into the tax code, I hate paying ANY thing extra for them to waste!

You may want to educate yourself on the roles of various political positions. President Bush has no control over state or property taxes as he is over the Federal Government, not the state. Please readdress your question substituting President Bush's name with that of your Governor and then you may find applicable responses.
As far as the Federal government cutting back on what 'state' programs it supports, I say it's about time! State programs need to be funded and supported by it's constituents to better cater to their needs. When the federal government involves itself into state affairs, the people usually lose out in the long run as your elected state officials become mere middlemen rather than wielding the true power to change things like you elected them for.

If you paid fewer total tax this year than last, THAT would be a tax decrease. Save all of your receipts and records showing any tax charged or paid. compare the records from one year to the next. Adjust for income and cost differences.

State and Federal taxes are completely different...would you rather be paying even more than now....that's what you are saying.
Federal Gov't doesn't charge sales tax, or property tax....that is an issue with your state and local governments.

HA! You like the shell game? Easy to pawn it off on someone else. I liked it when Greenspan had to lower mortgage rates to stimulate a suffering economy, and Bush took credit for that! ANything to get the votes, I guess...Oh. If you were the richest 5 percent of the population, and dead, you might see your tax break
