Is it an 85 Buick LeSabre? I had one. Awesome car. Mine was a two door Limited Collectors Edition. Gold in color. They only made 500 of them in that same style. My mom bought it brand new from my Grandfather's dealership in 1985. I had it in shows and it won some trophies. Of course it was in emaculate condition and I sold if for $5,000 four years ago with 140k miles. Anyway, Yeah it's old, and it's obvious that no one else who answered this question ever owned an 85 Buick or they wouldn't be ripping on it like they are. Mine did the same thing. It was the idle arm. It was broke. Cost about $80 to fix. It would also idle way to high in colder weather.

If I was a 1985 Buick I'd die to. It is 21 years old! Are you kind to the 21 year old Buick?

you didnt specify what body style of buick you have. if it is a skylark, then you most probably have a tcc solenoid in the trans going bad. this will cause the car to die at stops. it is about a 3 hour repair and the parts will cost you about $55.00. part#'s 8689901 and 8678169

- Run out of gas
- Turn off the engine
- Explode.

All of these are good and logical ways to make your car die (and possibly you) when you pull up to a stop sign.

Out of gas.
Bad fuel filter.
Torn or disconnected vacuum hose.
Overheated.
Bad battery or alternator.
Bad ignition coil.
Corroded wiring.
Loose ignition key switch.
There are a lot of reasons it might die. does it shake? Make noise? Die with a backfire?

it could be a fuel pump going bad. get a fuel pressure test guage and see if your pump is at the proper psi. the psi (pounds per square inch) rating can be found online or in a Chilton's repair manual. it's usually between 35 and 50 psi.
