Not from a tree, but my grandfather made a swing for me when I was little and it was in their backyard, it got passed down through all of the grandchildren (swinging in the backyard was required in my family) !! Everyone had swings that my grandfather built.
Last year my uncle "remodeled" it and gave it a new coat of paint and some new chains and built a new frame for it and gave it to my little girl for her birthday.
So now it's in my backyard and I love it, always reminds me of my grandparents house when I was little.

I had a huge one, but it was just a rope. No tire or anything like that.
We would take a running start and go swinging up high.
Also we would do the same with those palm trees that have the long branches you could grab.
The only problem with these types of swings is that we'd have to be careful not to hit the trunk on the return trip.
That sucked.

We had a tree swing growing up too. One of my friends was over once to play and he threw an old metal engine part, which bounced off a metal cot we had in our play area. It ended up smacking me in the side of the head as I was swinging back. It ended up cutting my ear and I was deaf for quite a while out of the one side. Needless to say, it was a while before I got back on that thing. :)

No, but there was something similar. Im from India, and next to my old house there was a Banyan tree (which has aerial roots..kinda like the vines from which Tarzan used to swing), and we used it just like a natural swing.

No, but I had this rusty old thing in the backyard that my parents referred to as the "swing set"
I referred to it as a tetanus shot in waiting

yep...one out by the river and one in our back yard....the one in our yard had a tire on it & we'd swing out over the hill and feel like you were on top of the world...the one on the river was like yours.......
the tire swing is still there and my kids love it, the one by tthe river the police won't let us swing on any more, say the water's too polluted to swim in!

My grandparents had one in their backyard. They also had a rottweiler who would try to chase you if you were swinging on it. Good Times!

yes when I was growing up we did. It was hooked to a big tire and we would push it around and bounce into trees.

No, I have played on one at friend's houses but I was so jealous. I wanted one in my backyard I could play with all the time. You were lucky.
