They used to get gifts but now they get cash. $2,000 for 2nd and $1,000 for 3rd.

On the original Jeopardy in the 1960's, they did. But they found that it made people play too conservatively. Some people would come on the show with a goal of winning a certain amount of money, and stop answering questions when they got that much.
When they re-did the show in the 80's, that stopped.

I think they do now, but I'm not sure. I know the first place winner used to keep his money and the runners up would receive gifts, like trips or other prizes.
