No, we know how to pronounce our R's.
New York and Chicago are completely different.
For one, we put our trash in dumpsters in the alley, not in bags on the sidewalk.
For two, we have waaaayyy better pizza.
and three, we are soooo much nicer.
A few more differences, you don't automatically get cream put in your coffee for you, some people don't like that. Also, we don't give you a straw in a bag when you buy a bottle of soda. That doesn't make any sense... There are not delis all over the place. You can actually move around in stores in Chicago because they have wide aisles. The apartments are way bigger here than in NY.
Cabbies are much nicer, although many of them still smell the same way... there are not as many horns blowing, and no one yells down the street from their car.. out the window, yes, but not down the street.
We all stay in our cars.. no one gets out of their car to look to see what's going on that they can't do anything about anyway.
There are so many differences in transporation, shopping and attitude, I could not possibly put it all down on one answer...

Chicago people USED to have a midwestern accent, saying "dere" instead of there, etc. That's because most of the people settling here in the area were Eastern European (German, Polish, etc.) But now, with so many people moving here from other parts of the country (South, West Coast,) and bringing with them different accents, the "Chicago" accent is mostly disappearing. You hardly ever hear anyone say "Yeah, he lives over by dere" or "Dem are some good pretzels" or "Dose pizza slices are da best".
In fact, if you remember the Super Fans segment from Saturday Night Live (DAAAAAA Bears!....), that was closest to what a traditional Chicago accent sounded like, although it was an exaggeration...

Having been born and raised in Chicago, now living in Boston the last three years, I can truly say that Chicagoans and Bostonians do not speak the same. At least Chicagoans don't drop their r's. New Englanders think the carbonated stuff is called soda, not pop, and I use it to drive the cafeteria cashier crazy. :-)
Life in Chicago and NYC is not the same. The pace in NYC seems so frentic, less personable. There's more of a Midwestern sensibility in Chicago.

No, Chicago accents are different. New York and Chicago are only similar in the fact that they are both big cities, New York is much bigger.
