Over and extremely long period of time, small, minute changes have occurred to genetic material contained in various eggs. After many changes occurring within many eggs over a long span of time, an egg gave rise to a chicken. The egg probably came from an animal nearly identical to a chicken, but differing in one DNA sequence or whatever, but nonetheless, the chicken came from the egg.

According to National Geographic, scientists have settled the old dispute over which came first -- the chicken or the egg. They say that reptiles were laying eggs thousands of years before chickens appeared, and the first chicken came from an egg laid by a bird that was not quite a chicken. That seems to answer the question. The egg came first.

It doesn't even matter if you are an evolutionist or a creationist, the chicken would have to come first. In the evolutionist idea, their might have been something before the chicken, but the chicken would evolve and sure it might come from an egg, but until the chicken hatched, it would still be considered the same as whatever it came from. In the creationist model, the chicken would have been created as is and then go about laying eggs.

The egg came first, there were dinosaurs that laid eggs long before there were chickens, therefore the egg was first.

the egg. There is a mutation in cells as they are formed in the mommy, which is NOT a chicken. Think evolution. Very tiny changes over a very long time = new species.
